A turning point for me happened during my work as an analyst in strategy consulting. Because the project team was small and we were working a continent away from headquarters, I was given the early opportunity and responsibility to present to the client and pitch follow-on work. I remember immediately realizing that building partnerships with clients would be the focus of my career.
I’ve had the privilege since then to work across most types of alternative strategies and with all varieties of LP investors – large pensions, nonprofits, family offices, and consultants. By knowing each investor’s organization as a whole, I have been able to understand their goals and constraints for their investment portfolio. Putting myself in their shoes enables me to structure an approach that results in a winning relationship.
